Business model

Since 2007, Custom77 has always trying to minimize middlemen. When major brands leave margin to distributor and to retailer, we sell directly to customers offering superior quality for an equivalent retail price.

Though, at the end of 2016, we signed an exclusive distribution partnership with Amazon to enter a new stage. This offer a leading exhibition on Europe and north Amercian market.

Warranty

All guitars and basses have a 1 year warranty. 3 years extended option is also available. Contact us for more informations.
Read our Term of use for more details.

Shipping

All guitars and basses are shipped with express courrier (UPS, DHL...). If instrument is sold without case, this one is wrapped in bubble pack, enclosed into a first carton, wrapped again and enclosed into a second carton. We've been shipping instruments since 2007 and acquired a great experience in this type of shipping. Once you received the instrument, you have 24h to contact us to signal any issues. Read our Term of use for more details.

Processing time

Each guitar is controlled and adjusted in our workshop. The processing time varies from one week to two. Some guitars like "CS" series can be sent faster if we are in a "normal" period.
In the case of a "DL" or "Deluxe" Series, the guitars are fully assembled in our workshop. Some parts are specific. Most of our suppliers are in the United States and are sometimes small craftsmen. This can lengthen the time up to 3 to 4 weeks for very specific items.
Finally, in the case of a guitar of the "Artisan" or "Custom Shop" series, the guitar is entirely made to order. It can take between 6 to 8 weeks, or even more in case of complex requests.

 Where to test?

Right now, we have no international dealers. you can purchase directly through our our website like hundreds of international customers did since we started in 2007. You can read many feedbacks all over the web that show how attentive we are to our customers.  But if you're not happy, we're, not happy and you can return the instrument for a full refund. Read our Term of use for more details.

Left handed

For years we were offering all our models in left handed. Unfortunatly, this market is really small and we don't have the financial capabilities to continue that way. Right now, this part of the catalog is on hold. Sorry guys.

WOODS / MANUFATURING SPECS

Woods Origins

Maple and alder are from the USA (or Canada), mahogany and rosewood are from Indonesia. The mahogany we use is not Nato (Nyatoh) which is sometimes used as mahogany, because of its resemblance.

Type of Neck Settings

There are three main types of neck settings:
- Bolt-On: It's the construction that brings the most attack and dynamics.
- Set Neck: This construction offers a lot of sustain and gives more presence in the bass range.
- Neck Through: This type of neck crosses the entire body of the guitar. The body made of two wings glued to the side of the neck. This construction brings even more sustain than on a set neck and offers better access to the treble because the heel can be reduced since it is no longer useful.

Fingerboard Woods

For the fingerboards (or fretboards), there are three main choices: Rosewood, Ebony and Maple. One of the most common woods in electric guitar is rosewood. Fairly tender to the feel, it is relatively present in the lows. Ebony and maple will be much more dynamic. The maple will be quite hard to the feel and the ebony will be even harder, which gives a pleasant feeling when playing. Moreover, ebony is often chosen for aesthetic reasons. It is the most expensive wood of the three and it combines almost all the advantages.

Neck Woods

We mainly use two woods to build necks: Maple and mahogany.
The maple will be brighter and more dynamic while the mahogany will be more bassy.

Body Woods

Alder is one of our favorite woods for the body. It brings a lot of dynamics and precision. Mahogany is more bassy and was usefull in the 50's or 60's, when amps where not offering as much bass as expected. Todays amps are abble to deliver huge quantities of bass. This is why we prefer looking for a more dynamic wood, like Alder, as an amp can't bring that dynamic.
You won't be abble to recreate that by adding treble nor presence on the amp.
However, we still use mahogany on some model generally aimed for a more rock or metal audience.

Two Way Truss Rod

Two way Truss Rod can adjust neck in both direction.

Neck Profile

All our guitars (except baritone) have the same neck profile. (See drawing)

PICKUPS / HARDWARE

Differences between Custom77® pickups

The Custom77 pickups are specially designed for our guitars. These are not rebadged pickups.
All our humbuckers are inspired from PAF. We love this underwound, extremely rich in harmonics and articulated sound. There are variations among them to meet the various expectations.

- "Modern77" Inductance: 6,95H, neck resistance: 14Kohm, bridge resistance: 16Kohm, Polyurethane insulated wires, Alnico V magnet, humbucker type.
They are characterized by a bump in the mediums for a more "rock" sound, facilitating placement in the mix of the band. A higher output level but not at the expense of its musicality. As the name suggests, they are the more modern version of our microphones. Perfect match for medium to high gain level type of sound. They are therefore much appreciated by rock players who often seek sounds from GnR. Much appreciated by simple pickups players. Mostly because of their higher dynamics range and clarity.

- "Vintage77"  Inductance: 6,95H, neck resistance: 9Kohm, bridge resistance: 10,1Kohm, Plain Enamel coating, Alnico V magnet , cores and parts manufactured in the United States, humbucker type.
They are characterized by a broad and balanced spectrum, a controlled output level and higher harmonic richness than "Modern77". They are appreciated by blues, rock and even jazz players. Often associated with sounds like Led Zep, ZZ Top ...

- "Classic77" Inductance: 6H, neck and bridge resistance: 8,9Kohm, Plain Enamel coating, Alnico V magnet , cores and parts manufactured in the United States, humbucker type.
These are our higher end pickups. The objective was to aim the harmonic richness characteristic of the first PAF (1961-65 period).

- "P77"  Inductance: 6,89H, mneck and bridge resistance: 8,6Kohm, Plain Enamel coating, Alnico V magnet , cores and parts manufactured in the United States, P90 type.
Single, very dynamic and articulated microphones. The P77 are among the microphones that have made our reputation. Perfect for clean or crunch sound. Juicy with a fuzz or overdrive.

You can hear the differences between our pickups on the video with clean sound and on that one with crunch sound.
